01 / The exhibition is not a container /
To describe an exhibition as a container is to imagine that meaning already exists inside each work and only needs a neutral room. The archive suggests a different model. Meaning is produced through adjacency, interruption, scale, movement and the histories that viewers carry into the space. Curating begins when those relations are treated as material rather than background.
02 / Arrangement is an argument /
A sightline can connect two otherwise separate works; a pause can give an image duration; a table or publication can change a visitor from spectator into reader. Spatial decisions are therefore not the packaging of an argument but the form in which the argument becomes publicly testable. The exhibition thinks by making relations available to bodies in motion.
03 / Publicness must be produced /
The presence of several people in a room does not automatically make an exhibition public. Publicness emerges when interpretation can pass between people—through conversation, disagreement, shared looking and the possibility of remaining with a work. In this sense, mediation is not an explanation added afterwards; it is one of the exhibition's primary spatial operations.
04 / A photograph reorganises the room /
A photograph does not simply preserve the room that stood before the camera. It folds separate distances into one plane, draws attention toward some encounters and lets others recede. When we return to an exhibition through images, we are also reading this second arrangement: the room as it was lived, and the room as the photograph now asks us to see it.
05 / The exhibition continues after closing /
An exhibition ends as a public event but continues as a set of relations: a sentence remembered, an image carried elsewhere, a disagreement reopened years later. We work with those afterlives rather than treating the closing date as a full stop. Publication becomes another room in which the exhibition can be rearranged, questioned and entered again.
