01 / Attendance is not participation /
A crowded room can still preserve a one-way structure. Participation begins only when the frame gives people a consequential choice: they can redirect a discussion, change a material process, withhold speech, introduce another memory or question the terms of the encounter. The measure is not how many bodies appear in a photograph, but what those bodies were permitted to affect.
02 / Facilitation is distributed authorship /
The facilitator authors thresholds rather than outcomes: the first invitation, the pace of response, the redistribution of speaking time, the handling of disagreement and the care that allows hesitation to remain. This authorship is real but limited. It composes conditions without claiming ownership over everything participants contribute.
03 / Matter can carry negotiation /
Shared making moves discussion beyond verbal consensus. Hands, tools, surfaces and provisional objects register different speeds and capacities. Material can expose where an instruction is unclear, whose labour becomes invisible and how a collective decision is revised through action. The workshop becomes a small political space because form is negotiated in public.
04 / A camera changes the workshop /
The moment a camera enters, participants become aware of how they may later appear. Some gestures grow more deliberate; others disappear. We therefore treat documentation as part of the situation, not as an invisible observer. The image should stay close to the work of hands, materials and shared attention without turning participation into a performance for the camera.
05 / What remains after everyone leaves /
A workshop leaves more than objects. It leaves altered instructions, phrases that return later, new affinities and small changes in how a group can work together. We follow these residues because they show whether participation changed the situation or merely decorated it. The work continues wherever those changes are carried next.
