Cross-modal structure /
Rhythm is proposed as a structure shared across music, painting, photography and performance. Colour, tempo and repetition form correspondences that let one medium train attention for another.
Access before taste /
The educational task is not to command people to like jazz. It is to make an unfamiliar language sensorially available—to let listeners recognise rhythm, instrumental colour and proximity before specialist judgement arrives.
Curatorial relevance /
For curatorial practice, this becomes a model of mediation. A programme need not simplify a work; it can construct the conditions under which perception becomes possible and leave interpretation open.
